Getting ready for the trades

Students from the intro to trades class went on a field trip to Mankato for the Construct Tomorrow trade fair.  At this event students from New Ulm and surrounding school districts get the opportunity to learn more and ask questions about trades they’re interested in and learn about other job fields as well.

Students also get the chance to set up future job opportunities with recruiters that represent the different companies and unions present at the event.

“They’re salespeople trying to sell you their jobs,” intro to trades teacher Kevin Briggs said as he addressed the students the day after. “Just like everyone else, they need workers, and high school graduates are an easy target.”

He said he wants to prepare students in the best way he can and to show them all the different job possibilities they have in the trades
