NUHS Students flood into the cafeteria for lunch.

Spicin’ up mealtime with some tunes

The National Honor Society at NUHS plans to play music during lunch on 3 Fridays in Nov. to provide a sense of closure to the week. The specific dates are the 5th, the 12th, and the 19th. During the days, students will be able to request music to be played throughout the cafeteria during lunch. When there are no requests from students, music from a preset playlist will play instead.

The idea of playing music during lunch was first conceptualized when the sound system in the cafeteria was set up. School Counselors Caitlin Gloege and Ryan Ziemer then bounced around different scenarios where they could use it, and eventually the idea to play music during lunch was brought up. Gloege then set up a plan for students apart of the National Honors Society program to help out with getting everything together, as she knew they would be the right group for the job. “The National Honors Society has always been about service, but its also about creating a community experience,” Gloege said. “Music creates a space to have a more positive experience.”

The National Honors Society hopes that students will have fun, and encourages students to go out of their way to request their favorite song. If the event is a success, Gloege said it’s likely they will try to do the same thing or something similar next year.
