Currently, play practice is held every day after school. The cast starts off their rehearsals with a warm-up that gets them into character. Then they split off and either sing or practice their placements on the stage.
The musical this year is Bye Bye Birdie. It is about well-adored rock and roll musician Birdie Conrad who is drafted into the U.S. army. His agent creates a plan for Conrad to perform on The Ed Sullivan Show as a farewell to his fans and a way to save Almaelou Records. Conrad’s performance on the show eventually causes some problems for the people involved.
In charge of this year’s play is director Carissa Cowles, and musical director Holly Beranek. The play is set to be performed the first two weekends of November.
Katie Wilker, who plays Mrs. Merkle said, “I think the show will appeal to middle age folks since it is an older musical but it can easily be for teenagers as well. Pretty much open to anyone, there are some funny jokes that will keep the audience engaged no matter their age.”
