Apprentice
During the last hour of the last day of school before winter break, the students of Washington Learning Center were very excited to be able to make gingerbread houses to bring home to their families. Each of the students were allowed to bring one parent or family member to come help them build their creation. Although most of the students had someone come in to share this experience with them, there were unfortunately, a few students whose parents/family members couldn’t make it. Luckily, a few students from the high school who are a part of the Apprentice program were more than willing to head on over to Washington to help work on the gingerbread houses with these students!
The high schoolers who are involved with the Apprentice program have an hour everyday were they get to go help teach students from either Washington Learning Center or Jefferson Elementary School. All of the high school students involved in this program get to build close relationships with the younger students and experience what it is like to be a “teacher”. Apprentice is a wonderful program to be involvedĀ in, especially if you are interested in a career involvingĀ teaching younger children. If you are interested in signing up or learning more about Apprentice, Ms. Longtin would be glad to talk to you about it!
