Oak Street Singers

“A rose by any other name would smell as sweet”, or so Shakespeare thinks. However, many people may not agree with this statement, especially in relation to our Payne Street Singers name change. Our school is no longer located on Payne Street but on Oak instead, therefore, the Payne Street Singers have had to change their name. The Payne Street Singers have been an auditioned choral group at New Ulm High School for many years and their name has always been Payne Street Singers. Since our school no longer resides on Payne street, but on Oak street instead, the singers have made an executive decision to change their name this year. Many different options were reviewed in this name change and after much discussion, Oak Street Singers was decided upon. The singers decided that sticking with the current street name made the most sense. Though this name was decided upon by the majority, many people do not quite like the change! Is it just that Oak Street Singers does not quite have the same ring? Or maybe it is just because everyone is so familiar with the name Payne Street and change can be difficult to accept. In either case, one thing is for sure, our Oak Street Singers will continue to shine and show tons of school pride regardless of what their name is!
