2018 New Ulm Eagle Volleyball Recap
November 10, 2018
Ready, Set, Serve. As the weather slowly gets colder, the fall sports slowly come to an end. The volleyball season this year had its own roller coaster ride outside of the squadron at home games. There was an expectation that this season would be no different from last year; that expectation was blown out of the water.
The beginning of the season started a little slow with 3 tough match-ups, but once the Eagles got past those three games, they seemed to find their footing and it all came together. The Eagles would continue to play hard the rest of the season with a record of 11-13 on the season. The Eagles finished off their season in Redwood Falls losing 1-3. Although they lost the game, they sure put up a fight.
Izzie Wolkow helped recap the season: “There was a goal for the team every game, some of which were lowering errors, not allowing missed serves, and staying aggressive.” She also talked about some of the exciting games, saying, ” Worthington was the game at the beginningĀ of the season that got the ball rolling.”
Some of the teams the Eagles lost to last year in their 2-20 season they beat this year, such as Worthington, Fairmont, Blue Earth, and St. James.
We asked Izzie to elaborate on some of the moreĀ memorable games of the season. “Senior night when we took St. James to 5 and won, followed up with the Squadron hugging all of us,” she said and added, “Dig Pink Night against Fairmont was also a fun night because we swept them in 3 sets.”
Overall, Izzie said, “The goals that our team set before every single game helped us reach all of the accomplishments that we did.”
