Behind the scene with our Homecoming Queen
October 11, 2018
As the Senior’s final year of high school continues on, the one thing that without a doubt everyone looks forward to is Homecoming Week. In New Ulm, the thought of homecoming starts on the first day of school when all of the senior class is asked to vote for who they would like to have on the homecoming court. The homecoming week started Monday night when the 2018 homecoming queen was crowned.
Ellie Bute was named the 2018 homecoming queen of NUHS. Ellie is a 3-sport athlete, playing volleyball, basketball, and softball. She has been in band and choir since seventh grade. Ellie is also involved in the community by being part of the Culture Keepers group at her church and is also a rotary speaker.
We talked to Ellie’s closest friend, Jamie Schumacher, about what she thought about this whole experience. Jamie said, “I told people that she was going to win.” Jamie thought that Ellie was deserving of this honor because of her “involvement in our school and community, and the smile she always has on her face in the halls.”
We asked Homecoming Queen Ellie how she felt about being on the court. “I feel very honored and humbled to be even considered to be on the court.” Ellie enjoys Homecoming week because she gets to travel to all of the schools for the pep fest, but this year was different because she was on the court and not playing in the band. “Being able to go and do that from a different perspective was a lot of fun,” she said. Ellie’s favorite part of Homecoming is the Battle of the Classes because it shows all of the school spirit.
As you walk through the halls or see her in public give her a smile and tell her congrats on this amazing honor. This is something that will be in everyone’s memories for the rest of our life.
