A day in the life of Mr. Troy Guentzel starts by him waking up early in the morning. Mr. Guentzel said, “When I wake up in the morning I have no idea what my day is going to consist of.” He said he gets to school by 6:45 and as soon as he gets here he checks his emails and voicemails left for him. He gets back to the most important voicemails and emails first before he deals with the others. He then checks attendance, looks at what events are happening that day, and sends reminders to those working at the events. When students start walking in he tries to get out and greet them as they come in but it doesn’t happen very often.

Once he gets his morning going after school starts he sometimes has to do teacher observations, reschedule events, talk to coaches if they have a game that day, and other things that just pop up as his morning goes on. He said “No day is ever the same which I love. In order to do this job you have to enjoy it and have a flexible schedule, you can’t have a set schedule”. When lunch time comes, a lot of people would think he would sit down and at least take a little bit of time to eat but most days he doesn’t even get to eat lunch and if he does eat something it’s never a meal or at a set time, he just tries to eat something when he can.

When Mr. Guentzel’s afternoon comes around he starts preparing for the events happening and makes sure everything is in order and ready to go and sometimes even helps to get things set up or ready. He said there is a lot of behind the scenes stuff that people don’t realize goes on; “kids and weather determine how my day goes.” He said a lot of times he doesn’t get to eat supper with his family which is the thing he hates the most. This is due to going to every event that night or sometimes not getting home until 10 at night because he has that much to do at school. If he had to have one favorite thing about his job it would be “I love what I do, I like seeing and dealing with students, but like I said it is not a job for everyone.”
