Windbreaks

With the building of a new school, it should be expected that the administration will run into some problems. It should also be expected that these problems be taken care of, which usually happens. But how do you take care of a problem such as wind? With the new school having been built on top of the river valley, wind is definitely a force to be reckoned with. While wind can be overlooked by some, it is a serious problem to others.

Wind may not affect students during school, but it definitely does affect people playing sports afterwards. Sports have always been a popular activity here at New Ulm Public, and about everywhere else as well. So for an activity as popular as softball or baseball, why hasn’t the school begun to grow windbreaks? Even if there are plans to plant windbreaks, nothing has been started yet.

Windbreaks are a great way to stop wind, while also attracting wild life and in general creating a more natural feel to the environment around the school. Windbreaks take time to grow and are something that should be seriously considered as a permanent wind stop.
