FFA Spring Ditch Cleanup

May 23, 2023

Parts of tires, pieces of foam, pieces of wood. These 20 FFA members picked it all up and more.

FFA members clean the ditches of Highway 15, from the top of the hill coming out of New Ulm to Klossner, twice a year. They head out to clean up in the fall before all the garbage gets covered with snow. After all the snow melts in the spring to clean up everything that accumulated over the winter months.

Andrew Hellendrung found hats, gloves, signs, and a lot of other things. Many items were paper-based and were soaked from all of the rain over the past few days. There were dead deer, skunks, and many other animals you couldn’t even tell what they were.

After all four groups finished their section of the highway everyone went back to their vehicles and met back in the metals shop. There was pop and pizza from Pizza Ranch that was free for every member who participated. Everyone gathered and talked about what they found, ticks that were found on their bodies (there was a total of 3 ticks found on the way back to the high school), and various other things that have happened or will be happening.
