NUHS students get to school early to play some pickleball

February 22, 2023

Students at NUHS woke up early this week for pickleball intramurals starting at 7:30 a.m. to the beginning of the school day. Students at the High School have the opportunity to be involved in intramurals which they can grab a partner or team to do it with. Whatever the sport that is being played, from beanbags to games to pickleball or basketball, the students always have a blast.

This week’s Intramural was pickleball. Many people signed up to play and there was great competition. From freshmen to Seniors, everyone showed up each day ready to play the game. Even if you haven’t played pickleball since freshmen year many were just happy to be there.

“The past few intramurals haven’t had the best turnout, so it was nice to see many people get involved in our event,” Student Council member Bryn Nesvold said.

Intramurals have been an ongoing activity here at NUHS. It was hard to get people back into it after covid happened. But this year the turnouts have been rising after the student council members have worked hard to make sure many people get signed up for these events.

Seniors Emily Pearson and Evie Sellner played against seniors Thomas Shwartz and Keenan Davis. It was a tough game since both teams are really good at pickleball but they both had lots of fun.

“Pickleball has been a blast so far! Evie and I have been pretty solid, but she’s definitely carrying. It’s been fun to play a variety of teams that are different ages and skill levels and I’m excited for the tourney next week! We’ll see how far we can get but who knows,” Emily Pearson said. The championship round will take place on Feb. 21 due to a two-hour start this week.
