The start of a strong season

NUHS boys hockey team scrimmages Mankato East.

The New Ulm Eagles look to soar high this year during their 2022-23 hockey season.

The team is led by Senior captains Jack Albrecht and Blake Soukup. Throughout the years, this exact team has built chemistry by playing with each other through the summer and winter each and every year. As the team prepares for the upcoming season, they are participating in scrimmages to get them ready for the real battles.

Senior Jack Albrecht has high hopes for the season with very high intentions of heading to the state tournament. “The tourney has been my dream along with everyone else since I’ve been able to skate,” Albrecht said.

In the Winter of 2020, the Bantam A team made it to the State tournament for the first time in 50+ years. Luckily that is the same group of kids who are now playing at the varsity level for NUHS.

“It is really fun to watch the boys play hockey, you can tell they have a really strong bond on the ice! Everyone is excited to see how well they do this season!” Aschenbrenner said.

As the season is approaching, head coach Ryan Neuman has the team going through the ritual of “Hell Week” to get the team ready.
