Fantastic Gymnastics

NUHS Gymnastics team kicks the season off with an amazing start.

Senior Emma Radloff screams in pain after hard work for intense conditioning. The conditioning consists of many extreme ab and upper body workouts which will help the gymnastics succeed in their events. “The first week of practice is always the most painful,” Radloff said.

Most NUHS winter sports started at the beginning of November. One of these sports includes Gymnastics.

Strength is shown after the intense conditioning

NUHS Gymnastics started on Monday, November 14, 2022, and kicks off the season with a hard-working start. Although gymnastics is a NUHS sport, it’s not like other sports. Between the contortion tricks and different events, gymnastics is uniquely made.

Gymnastics has 4 different events: bars, beam, floor, and vault. On these events, the individual gymnasts flip and twist with the goal of trying to get a perfect score of 10. The sport, for the most part, is individual, but the scores from each individual are added together to make a team score. This number can be something between 100-200, depending on how many players there are and how well they compete.

Gymnastics coach Kourtney Peterson, who was a former student and gymnast at NUHS and has been coaching for almost a decade, said she’s “nervous and excited for our first meet. The girls know what they can do and I’m hoping they execute it well.” The first meet is Tuesday, December 6.

Sophomore Josie Sellner said, “Throughout this winter season of 2022-2023, make sure to support your school’s gymnasts and check out a meet!”
