Healthful living mindful meditation days

December 2, 2021

New Ulm high school students taking a nap during class. 15 students in Mrs. Longtin’s healthful living class take a mindful and meditation day every 3 weeks. Every 3 weeks at the HS is a grade check, meaning that every 3 weeks grades are being put in the grade book, and Mr. Guentzel checks to make sure every HS student is eligible for sports, any extra after school activity, open lunch (if they are junior or senior), etc.

As a tradition, Mrs. Longtin and her healthful living class have always done a mindful and meditation day every 3 weeks so students can relax their minds and body from the stress about grade checks. “The point of this day is so the students can have a day to relax, and forget about school,” said Longtin.

“Most of my students like these days during grade check weeks, so they don’t have to worry about the stress of school anymore, they can shut their brains off. It is also helpful that this class is during 7th hour so they can relax at the end of the day and not have to worry about anything else for the rest of the day,” said Longtin.

Sleeping is what most HS students like most, and this class takes advantage of it 100%. Abby Fortwangler and Seven Wright both say “these mindful meditation days are very helpful for us, and we love getting to sleep during the school day.”
