Internship: Preparation for the future

Students intern at local businesses

October 31, 2021

A career, something most high schoolers dream about having.

With internship class at the New Ulm High School, it makes this dream a reality by showing students real-world experience in their career field. By working with local professionals they get a sneak peek at what their career would be.

This class has been called ¨the most useful class at the high school,¨ by Ms. Brandt, the teacher of the class. This is because students do not have to spend money on college and get to intern for free to see if they like the career. In this class, they focus on building skills for a student’s vocation.

Local internship student Luke Steffensmeier, who interns at Pauls Electric, said, ¨I like that it is a real-world experience that I will actually use outside of high school.¨ He plans on becoming an electrician and with this class, he is gaining the needed experience to start his career.

With this internship class offered at the New Ulm High School, students are working at businesses around New Ulm and are gaining real-world experience. With this, they are learning if it is a career they want to pursue.
