As baseball swings into season more and more traditions are coming back to normalcy. In the past most baseball boys have grown out their hair in hopes of making it to the state tournament, this year things are ramped up even more. The boys on the varsity team have begun to grow out everything above their necks from mustaches, beards, and their hair for their post-season play. This has brought the boys together and helped them become a team as Carson Helget states;

“I hate my neckbeard but the boys told me to keep growing it out, so I guess we will see how long it gets.”

Their season has started strong with 2 games and they were both wins, this can be attributed to only one thing… the mustaches! At the beginning of the season, all of these boys sat down and decided this was the perfect season to grow out all their facial hair before their post-season play happened. Some of the younger boys are having more of a struggle with growing out their hair, and some of the older senior boys are going to look 30 by the time their season is over. Senior Hunter Sehr describes how he feels about growing out his facial hair;

“Personally I don’t understand why these boys are doing it but I would be doing the same thing if I could actually grow facial hair.”

Although covid does play a part in this team, like having to wear masks while on the bench and to try and make the distance between the players, you can’t stop a team from bonding and coming together on and off the field. This baseball season is going to be even more interesting than the last because of the large number of seniors who are playing for this team and the fact that fans are allowed to come back and watch the games. Masked up of course! Once playoffs hit this team they will broadcast their 5 o’clock shadows to all their fans but if their season gets cut short this will be the end of the mustache train. This fun tradition hopefully will be carried on year after year.
